Radial Steel Gate

Radial steel gate (Tainter gate) is a mainstream water retaining structure for hydraulic projects. It consists of curved gate leaf, supporting arms, pivot hinges and sealing components. The gate leaf rotates around the central pivot hinge to open and close.


Water pressure acts radially through the hinge center, which greatly reduces lifting force. Without gate slots, it delivers smooth water discharge and excellent pressure bearing capacity.


It is divided into two types: open-top radial gate and submerged radial gate. Widely applied to spillways of reservoirs and hydropower stations for flood discharge under high water head and large flow conditions.

Low Opening & Closing Resistance :The curved gate leaf rotates around pivot hinges; the resultant force of water pressure passes through the hinge shaft, so the hoisting force required is much lower than that of flat steel gates.


Excellent Dynamic Water Operation Performance :Smooth water flow avoids vibration and cavitation. The gate can be opened for flood discharge directly under flowing water conditions.

Superior Discharge Performance :No gate slot blocks water flow, delivering unobstructed flow cross-section and high flood discharge efficiency.


Anti-Siltation Design: Free of recessed gate slots, so sediment accumulation and gate jamming rarely occur in sediment-laden rivers and reservoirs.

Low Operation Noise: Stable water flow during opening and closing eliminates violent impact and vibration for smooth operation.



Suitable for High Flow Velocity & Large Discharge: Ideal for spillways, flood tunnels and large-opening flood discharge working conditions.
