The tide prevention, waterlogging drainage and seawater backflow prevention project for coastal rivers and harbors mainly adopts tide gates and flood drainage facilities to conduct regulated management of tidal water systems. In accordance with tidal fluctuation rules and rainfall conditions in flood seasons, tide gates are opened and closed precisely. The gates are shut down during high tide levels to effectively block seawater backflow from the open sea and prevent saline water inundation of river channels, tidal flats and urban areas. The gates are opened at low tide levels and in flood seasons to rapidly drain waterlogged accumulated water and surplus runoff inside the channels. Two-way regulation of tide resistance and waterlogging drainage is therefore realized, comprehensively enhancing the coastal area’s capacity against tidal disasters, waterlogging reduction and disaster mitigation, and ensuring the stability of coastal water systems and regional safety.
