During the impoundment period, incoming river water is retained for water reserves for water supply, irrigation, ecological replenishment and power generation by closing intake gates and slightly adjusting the opening of water-retaining gates.
In flood seasons, service gates of spillways and flood discharge tunnels are opened and closed in stages with adjustable openings according to hydrological conditions to release floodwater in a controlled manner and reduce flood peaks, so as to ensure the safety of the dam and downstream areas.
In daily operation, dynamic fine-tuning is carried out through water intake and regulating gates. Flood control storage capacity is reserved by strictly limiting water levels in flood seasons, while reasonable water levels are maintained steadily in dry seasons. Accurate gate operation coordinates flood prevention, water supply and ecological protection in an integrated manner.
